How does a regulated nervous system look like, is a question my clients ask me.
A regulated nervous system is not about never feeling big emotions.
It’s about being able to meet those emotions: anger, grief, shame, guilt, jealousy, fear, without being consumed by them.
It’s about having enough inner safety to pause before reacting.
To take a breath before the words you’ll regret escape your lips.
To feel the storm without letting it destroy the bridge between you and the people you love.
When your nervous system is regulated, your body no longer lives in survival mode.
You don’t need to fight, flee, freeze, or fawn just to feel safe.
You can be in the presence of discomfort and still choose how to respond. Consciously. With intention.
This doesn’t mean you won’t feel anger or sadness.
It means you can stay with yourself in the middle of them.
It means your emotions move through you instead of taking over you.
And that is power.
Quiet, grounded power.
The kind that allows you to live in alignment with your values,
to show up as the parent, partner, friend, or human you want to be,
even when life tests you.
May your breath be the anchor in the waves.
May your body remember it is safe now.
And may your heart learn that even in the storm, you can choose the shore.
Take a deep breath and choose how you respond!
That’s the strength of a regulated nervous system.
And that’s the power of self awareness and emotional maturity!
With presence,🤍
